Brockport’s Main Street Welcomes New Businesses
September 26, 2007 – The grand openings continue in Brockport

The Village of Brockport recently celebrated the arrival of six (6) new businesses. Zonie’s, Adore, Salvation Station, Magic Wands, It’s The Season and Ultimate Sports & Apparel are the latest in a series of new businesses to open in Brockport’s bustling Main Street corridor.

- Zonies, appropriately named to specialize in calzones, will occupy the former Mighty Joe’s Grill location at 55 N. Main Street. The menu offers a wide variety of ingredient options, as well as dessert calzones, chicken wings, chicken tenders, and pints of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.

Local owners Tyler Frisbie and Josh Gillespie offer free delivery and are open until 3 a.m. Sunday-Tuesday and 4 a.m. Wednesday-Saturday.

- Ultimate Sports and Apparel celebrated their grand opening August 11th with a series of free giveaways and prizes. Located at 177 Main Street at the intersection of College Street, the company specializes in screen-printing and embroidery for sports, business and corporate apparel.

Owner Wendy Riddell is busy with orders from local sports teams and businesses.

- Salvation Station, a Christian book and gift store, opened recently at 28 N. Main Street. The store is owned by Kathy Chapple, who said her businesses is “way more than a bookstore.” She also sells Christian CD’s, DVD’s and greeting cards, and has a special book section dealing with recovery issues.

Chapple plans to open a Christian reading room in back of the store around Nov. 1st. The space will host Bible study, a Christ-centered weight loss program, home-school groups and possibly family movie nights.

- Magic Wands is a new vacuum sales and service shop owned by local businessman George Sokolsky at 43 N. Main Street. Sokolsky lives near his store and has been in business in the Brockport area for 20 years.

The business is co-owned by Paul Dean, who runs a sewing machine repair service and has 35 years experience in his trade.

- Adore Hair Studio at 87 Main Street was opened in July by mother-and-daughter partners Meg Burdick and Lauren Carlo. The studio offers a full range of hair styling services for men and women, and a discount for students. The studio employs three stylists and is tastefully decorated in hues of red brick and soft gold. It is located near the corner of State Street, on which additional parking is available.

- It’s The Season is a new gift shop located in the storefront of the 2-6 Main Street building near the Main Street Bridge. Owner Karen Petersen opened her shop about two weeks ago, and is expecting the delivery of plenty of new merchandise and a new business sign soon. “I had always wanted a store,” said Petersen. Her shop will sell candles, cards and the Dionis line of goat’s milk lotion and bath products.

Petersen chose the unique name for her shop because she plans to carry seasonal merchandise for major holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Halloween, Valentine’s Day and Easter. She said she hopes to attract “people who are downtown-shop friendly”.

Brockport officials couldn’t be more pleased. “We are very excited to see these storefronts filled and this type of new business development in our commercial corridor,” said Village Manager Ian Coyle. “Each new business represents a wonderful addition to an already excellent field of well-established retail operations in the Village,” said Coyle.

“We’re delighted that Main Street continues to thrive in the Village of Brockport.”
