PRESS RELEASES - Village of Brockport
Brockport Becomes an ICMA-recognized Municipality:
At the June Board meeting of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), the Village of Brockport became the 76th New York State jurisdiction to receive ICMA recognition.
Recognition is the formal acknowledgment by the membership and Executive Board of ICMA that a local government has established a position of professional management for its appointed executive. The ICMA recognition process identifies those local governments, which by ordinance, local law, charter or other legal document have established positions of professional authority. Recognition means the community is identified as one that provides a legal framework conducive to the practice of professional management.
In Brockport, the position of Village Manager was established by local law in 2005 and the position specifications were found to have met the requirements of an ICMA recognized municipal administrative structure.
“I submitted the recognition application in July and I’m obviously delighted to hear of its success,” said Village Manager Ian Coyle, an ICMA member since 2002. “By obtaining a formal acknowledgment from ICMA, the preeminent professional association for local government administrators, Brockport has taken another significant step in professionalizing and adding further legitimacy to the Manager position in the Village.”
With this designation, the Village of Brockport becomes the first ICMA-recognized municipality in Monroe County.
