In partnership with the On the Canals Program, the Village of Brockport is hosting the annual January First snow shoeing along the Erie Canal, beginning at the Welcome Center at 1pm. This two-hour free event concludes with hot chocolate and smores. If there is no snow we’ll hike without equipment. Please sign up to ensure we have enough supplies. www.onthecanals.com

NEW: We will have two Kettler Snow Sleds available for each excursion! These sleds provide a supportive seat back and tubular side railing, and three adjustable belts in the foot, waist, and upper torso areas. Weight limit 220 pounds. It comes with a push handle system so the rider can be assisted. Your companion can push you or you may request staff to provide that support for you. We hope this addition allows for a more inclusive family or friend group experience for all ages and abilities.
An ASL interpreter can be requested with four (4) days’ advance notice in order for us to place the request in a timely manner. Please send your request to otcbrockport@gmail.com.
We will meet at the Welcome Center, 11 Water Street, Brockport, where there is municipal parking and accessible bathrooms. We will hand out equipment, make adjustments, and then travel (cross Park Avenue Lift Bridge and head west across paved walkway and around the paved detour) to the canal path at the Main Street Lift Bridge to begin our journey. We will finish at the Welcome Center to warm up with hot chocolate and make s’mores. The excursion will start at 1:00 pm. We will go about a mile and a half to two miles west on the canal towpath (stone cinders) and should return in one and a half to two hours. Please don’t bring any of your four-legged friends so that we don’t get tangled up as we go.
