Join us at the IBiB makerspace for an exciting workshop where you will learn how bridges react to forces by designing, testing, and improving your own unique bridge. We’ll learn some bridge terminology and explore what shapes and design features make a bridge stable and stiff. We’ll also discuss how our very own lift bridges function. Open to all ages (younger makers grades 3 through 5 should have an adult helper). An ASL Interpreter can be requested with four (4) days’ advance notice by emailing otcbrockport@gmail.com.
It Begins in Brockport (IBiB) is a makerspace at the rear of Hart Gallery27 on Market Street. Participants will meet at the Welcome Center (11 Water Street, where there is parking and accessible bathrooms) and walk to the makerspace where all of the bridge building will take place. Then, as time permits, we will walk to the canal waterfront to view and discuss lift bridges.
This is a ticketed event with limited space for six (6) bridge builders of any age but at least 8 years old. Adult helpers are encouraged for younger bridge builders and don’t need a ticket if building with a younger builder. If you want to build your own bridge, please reserve a ticket for yourself.
